2022 World T20: Well, at the moment, team India is enjoying a superfluity of players for the 2022 World T20. Almost a pool of 20-22 cricketers has been shortlisted along with their auditions being happening. Also, thanks to the excessive bilateral fixtures, almost every cricketer from that pool are getting adequate chances.

But there are also certain individuals who have been recently snubbed from the shortest format. Until the concluded England tour, these cricketers were also very much part of the experimentation process. Nevertheless, their bleak performances in IPL 2022 had unfortunately pushed them back in the pecking order.

Hence in this list, let’s check out the three names that have slipped away from team India’s current T20I setup ahead of the 2022 World T20

1.Venkatesh Iyer

With Hardik Pandya back, Venkatesh Iyer is having a tough time finding a place in the side.

After the 2021 World T20 debacle, Venkatesh Iyer was perceived as a backup of unfit Hardik Pandya. The cricketer also because of his strong IPL 2021 performances immediately made his T20I debut. After that till IPL 2022, the southpaw also didn’t miss a single 20-over game. However, his malfunction in the last IPL almost made him lose his T20I place.

From his 12 games in IPL 2022, Venkatesh mediocrely scored 182 runs at a poor average of 16.55. Certainly, his breakdown in the tournament coincided with junior Pandya’s resurgence thus making him his deputy. However, the 27-year-old had still retained himself in the T20I squad till the England tour. Unfortunately, post the 1st England T20I, V Iyer has got himself discarded.

In fact, barring the T20Is, the individual is also now missing the upcoming Zimbabwe ODI series. Overall, despite being a fine deputy during Hardik’s absence, Venkatesh Iyer has bitterly got slipped away from white ball cricket and is nowhere near contention for a spot in the 2022 World T20

2.Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur will have challenges now that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is bowling well and Deepak Chahar is back

By the end of 2021, Shardul Thakur had established himself as an all-format player. The cricketer was also part of the 2021 World T20 squad as a bowling all-rounder. In fact till the home WI T20I series in February 2022, Shardul was considered a frontline seamer. However, his reasonable show in IPL 2022 woefully made him lose his T20I place.

In the cash-rich league, the 30-year-old just scalped 15 wickets from 14 games at an awful economy of 9.79. Even with the bat, Shardul barely made a mark despite getting opportunities. Perhaps, as a result, the pacer is now only part of the two longer formats. Sadly even in the longer formats, Shardul has missed the spark that had given him success in 2021.

Comprehensively, the compelling emergence of other speedsters from IPL 2022 has also led to Shardul’s T20I elimination. Even Hardik Pandya’s revival now doesn’t make team India seek many all-rounders. That’s why our beloved Palghar express has received a hiatus in the 20-over format and seems unlikely for the 2022 World T20

3.Mohammed Siraj

Mohammad Siraj has cracked the Test code but is struggling to find his place in the T20 team for the 2022 World T20

Fortunately, after having a prosperous 2021 in longer formats, Siraj also then paved his way in T20Is. Immediately after the last World T20, the pacer played the home series against NZ. Beyond that Siraj also then sustained his T20I place till the start of IPL 2022. However, his woefulness in the tournament again brought his withdrawal from the shortest format.

Agonizingly, for RCB in IPL 2022, the cricketer had a disappointing season. From his 15 games, the 28-year-old only picked 9 wickets that too at an economy of above 10. Eventually, his inferior IPL performances axed the speedster from even playing the home SA series.

Overall, though Siraj still plays ODIs, his T20I comeback now looks uncertain. Also with the Indian T20I team relishing the plethora of seamers, there’s barely any new seamer joining. Therefore, even Siraj will have to extensively wait for his 20-over comeback.
