Chopra: ‘Nobody is talking about him, which is very shocking’: Big absence from India squads for WI series

In an announcement made Wednesday, the BCCI announced the team lineups for the team’s home series against the West Indies. The series begins on February 6. There are several important changes in the squad, with Ravi Bishnoi receiving his first international call-up, as well as Kuldeep Yadav returning to the line-up. A fully recovered Rohit Sharma also returns to limited-overs duty following a hamstring injury.

Although many new and returning faces appeared in the squads, players like Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy continued to be absent. Ravichandran Ashwin, who never made it to both squads for the ODI series in South Africa, and Ishan Kishan, who was part of the ODI squad for that series, were absent from the series against the West Indies. Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener who noted their absence, noted that no statement has been released on the reasons for the omissions.  “I am not aware of Ashwin. BCCI hasn’t said anything about him being unavailable for 1.5 months, despite reports to the contrary. There has been no mention of Rahul Chahar or Varun Chakravarthy. We did not know where they were,” Chopra stated on his official YouTube channel.

Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar were both in the T20 World Cup side but are now out. A few T20I series ago, Chahar was unavailable and said to be unfit. His status is no longer under discussion. Ravi Bishnoi has now become the flavor of the month and I hope he’ll be given chances rather than sidelined right away like Rahul Chahar has been,” concluded Chopra.
