In the first Test match against England in Hyderabad, Yashasvi Jaiswal played an attacking innings to give India a strong start. The Indian spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, combined to dent the England batting lineup, taking three wickets each. Despite a gritty innings from Ben Stokes, who scored 70 runs, England was bundled out for 246 in the third session of the opening day.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the opening pair of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley made a brisk start, consistently finding the boundary in the initial six overs. However, once the spin bowlers were introduced, the scoring rate slowed down, suggesting that the pitch did not favor aggressive batting.

In response, the Indian opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma provided a blistering start, adding 80 runs before Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 24. Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his fine form, completing a half-century. At the end of the day’s play, India was at 119-1, trailing England by 127 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 76, while Shubman Gill was batting on 14. The day’s play showcased a dominant performance from India, putting them in a strong position in the Test match.

Jaiswal’s Masterclass Puts India on the Front Foot Against England

Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his aggressive style from the beginning of his innings, starting with a boundary off the very first ball he faced. Continuing in the same vein, he took the attack to debutant Tom Hartley in the second over, smashing a couple of sixes. Currently unbeaten, Jaiswal has compiled an impressive score of 76 runs off just 70 balls, which includes 9 fours and 3 sixes. His attacking approach and fluent stroke play have put India in a strong position at the end of the first day’s play against England in Hyderabad.

Analyzing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wagon wheel, it’s evident that he had a clear preference for the leg side. The majority of his runs came through the deep mid-wicket region, amassing 20 runs in that area. He targeted the leg side for his sixes as well, showcasing his power-hitting ability. Additionally, Jaiswal accumulated 18 runs through the long-on region and 14 runs through deep square leg.

While he predominantly favoured the leg side, Jaiswal also played some classy shots in the off-side region, particularly through covers, where he scored 15 runs. His all-around stroke play and comfort against England’s spinners highlight his attacking mindset and adaptability to various bowling styles.

After the conclusion of the first day in the opening Test between India and England, the home team finds themselves in a commanding position. Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja seized the show with the ball, putting England on its back foot. The spin duo took three wickets each, restricting England to 246. Yashasvi Jaiswal, with a sensational unbeaten 76, led India’s response with an attacking innings.

England faces a daunting challenge on the second day, especially with their inexperienced bowling lineup. To stay competitive in the match, they will need a substantial effort to restrict India’s first-inning total. Meanwhile, India will aim to capitalize on their strong position, batting aggressively to build a significant lead. The nature of the pitch suggests that batting last could be challenging, making India’s quest for a substantial lead crucial in shaping the outcome of the Test.
