Yashasvi Jaiswal’s scintillating century propelled table-toppers Rajasthan Royals to a commanding nine-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League encounter on Monday.
Sandeep Sharma’s exceptional bowling performance saw him clinch a maiden five-wicket haul, restricting the Mumbai Indians to 179/9. Following a brief rain interruption, Rajasthan Royals efficiently chased down the target of 180 with eight balls to spare. Opening batsman Jaiswal, rediscovering his form, emerged as the top scorer for RR, notching an impressive 104 off just 60 deliveries.
In the initial overs, Trent Boult’s early breakthrough saw the dismissal of Rohit Sharma for a mere 6 runs, while Sandeep Sharma wreaked havoc by removing Ishan Kishan (0) and Suryakumar Yadav (10) in quick succession, leaving MI struggling at 20/3 after opting to bat first. However, Tilak Varma steadied the ship with a resilient 65, complemented by Nehal Wadehera’s aggressive 49 off 24 balls, as they stitched a crucial partnership of 99 runs for the fifth wicket. Sandeep Sharma’s brilliance continued as he claimed three more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul, ultimately restricting Mumbai Indians to 179.
The Royals’ chase began with a solid start, with Buttler and Jaiswal finding boundaries regularly, propelling RR to 44/0 after 5 overs. Their momentum continued as they reached 61/0 after 6 overs, with Buttler and Jaiswal smashing four boundaries in Tushara’s over. However, a brief drizzle interrupted the match following the strategic timeout.
Despite Buttler’s departure for a well-made 35, Jaiswal continued his onslaught, completing his half-century in just 31 balls. The Royals then unleashed a flurry of sixes, smashing three in a single over bowled by Nabi, reaching 110/1 after 11 overs.
