In a thrilling encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious by four wickets, thanks to a scintillating display of batting led by captain Faf du Plessis. Despite a mid-innings wobble, du Plessis’ blazing fifty, along with a solid start provided by him and Virat Kohli, propelled RCB past the modest target of 148 set by Gujarat Titans.
Du Plessis (64 off 23 balls) and Kohli (42 off 27 balls) set the stage on fire with a blistering 92-run opening partnership in just 35 balls. Their onslaught included a flurry of boundaries and sixes, with Kohli particularly severe on pacer Mohit Sharma in the opening over. Du Plessis, not to be outdone, punished left-arm pacer Josh Little in the second over, showcasing his intent with a sequence of boundaries.
However, RCB encountered a phase of struggle as they lost wickets quickly after the blistering start, with key batsmen like Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green falling cheaply. Little and spinner Noor Ahmad were the chief architects of RCB’s collapse, reducing them from 92 for 1 to 112 for 5.
Despite the setbacks, Dinesh Karthik’s composed innings (21 not out off 12 balls) ensured RCB crossed the finishing line with four wickets in hand. Karthik’s late flourish, including three fours and a couple in the final over off Rashid Khan, sealed the victory for RCB.
Earlier in the match, RCB’s bowlers set the tone by restricting Gujarat Titans to a modest total of 147. Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal impressed with their accuracy, picking up crucial wickets upfront and stifling GT’s batsmen in the Power Play. Although GT had partnerships between David Miller and Shahrukh Khan, as well as Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan, they failed to accelerate the scoring rate, ultimately falling short of a competitive total.
