Royal Challengers Bengaluru impressive run in the 2024 Indian Premier League came to a halt on Wednesday with a four-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator held in Ahmedabad. Despite being favorites due to their six-match winning streak, RCB fell short as Riyan Parag (36) and Shimron Hetmyer (26) successfully chased down the 173-run target with an over to spare. Nevertheless, RCB can take pride in their season, having risen from the 10th spot on the table to make a strong playoff push.

Despite the eventual defeat, their turnaround from being written off by many was commendable. Throughout the season, RCB had several standout performances that made their campaign memorable. There were numerous moments that captured the attention of fans and analysts alike. From stunning individual feats to crucial team efforts, RCB showcased resilience and talent. Each of these moments contributed to RCB’s thrilling journey, which, despite its early end, left a lasting impression on the tournament.

Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar impresses

He may not have had the ideal start with RCB, but England youngster Will Jacks quickly adapted to the big stage in India. Initially, Jacks struggled with scores of 8 and 7 against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. However, he bounced back impressively in the following game against Kolkata Knight Riders, smashing a 29-ball fifty. A few matches later, Jacks further showcased his talent with an unbeaten century against Gujarat Titans, helping RCB secure their second consecutive win at that point in the season.

Similarly, Rajat Patidar made a significant impact with multiple fifties, tallying five in total, which is his highest in a single season. Patidar provided much-needed flexibility to RCB’s middle-order and consistently stepped up when it mattered most. His contributions, along with Jacks’ resurgence, played crucial roles in RCB’s campaign, highlighting the depth and potential within their squad.

Yash Dayal’s remarkable turnaround

Back in April, Yash Dayal was struggling with his line and length, conceding over 50 runs in consecutive games against SRH and KKR. Despite taking two wickets against KKR, Dayal was particularly expensive in the death overs, giving away six boundaries. However, in the next match against SRH, the 26-year-old found his rhythm and confidence, finishing with impressive figures of 1/18. He built on this performance with disciplined displays against GT (2/21) and DC (3/20).

Dayal’s moment of reckoning came against CSK when he was tasked with defending 16 runs in the final over. Rising to the occasion, he successfully held off the opposition, securing a crucial victory for RCB and ensuring their place in the playoffs. This turnaround highlighted Dayal’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

Cameron Green’s late resurgence

Expectations were high for Cameron Green after RCB acquired the Australian all-rounder for Rs 17.50 crore from Mumbai Indians (MI). Although he showed promise with the ball, Green initially struggled to find form with the bat. However, as RCB began their late-season resurgence, Green’s batting performances also improved. An unbeaten 37 against SRH in Hyderabad, where he also took 2/12, marked the beginning of his turnaround.

He continued this form with a solid 46 against PBKS and an unbeaten 32 against DC. Green’s most impactful innings came against CSK, where his unbeaten 38 played a crucial role in keeping RCB in contention for an IPL playoff spot. Had Green found his rhythm with the bat earlier in the season, RCB might have peaked sooner, potentially changing the course of their campaign.
