A clinical batting display from the batters followed by all-round bowling display from bowlers saw Chennai Super Kings defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by margin of 49 runs in match number 33 of Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) at the historic Eden Gardens

The host won the toss and opted to field first. CSK openers got off to a brisk start as the duo added 73 runs in 7.3 overs, Suyash Sharma drew the first blood for KKR as Ruturaj Gaikwad departed for a well made 35 runs off 20 balls. Devon Conway got dismissed for 55 immediately after scoring half-century courtesy of brilliant bowling from Varun Chakaravarthy. Soon, Shivam Dube joined Ajinkya Rahane as the duo toyed with the potent KKR bowlers smashing them round the ground. The total posted by CSK is the highest total at Eden Gardens as well against KKR in IPL. Then Nitish Rana partnered with Venkatesh Iyer as the duo kept the scoreboard ticking by adding 45 runs for the third wicket but Moeen Ali broke the partnership by trapping Venkatesh Iyer in front. Soon Nitish Rana departed for 27 in the very next over, KKR were even more in trouble at 70/4 in 9th over.

Jason Roy and Rinku kept the chase lively by adding a fifty partnership in quick-succession, Jason Roy registered his fifty in just 19 balls.  Soon, Maheesh Theekshana cleaned up Jason Roy for 61 runs. Cameo from Rinku Singh helped KKR only to reduce the margin of defeat, as CSK beat KKR by 49 runs.
