Rohit comes from a middle-class family in Mumbai. His childhood was spent in extreme poverty. His father, Gurunath Sharma, worked as a caretaker. Rohit Sharma's cricket journey is truly inspiring. Although he started as a bowler, today he is known as a world-class batsman. In the beginning, Rohit played as an off-spinner. His career took shape under the guidance of coach Dinesh Lad.

Coach Dinesh Lad helped him get a scholarship to study at Swami Vivekananda International School. During his school days, Rohit used to bat at number seven or eight. Later, Coach Lad saw potential in him and decided to promote him as an opener.

Rohit proved him right when he played an unbeaten innings of 120 runs in an inter-school match. That moment confirmed to Coach Lad that he had made the right decision.
