Sean Williams Remains Calm in What Could be his Last Dance - Cricket Winner

At 36, after retirement rumors and confusion regarding a break in the last few years, Sean Williams has hit another purple patch in his long career. His last few months have been tough and moving personally with a lot of changes back home, and Sean Williams himself has come into this tournament on the back of a very long career.

He has been a part of the Zimbabwe line-up for years, making his debut way back in 2005. With all the experience behind him, and with changes back home, Sean Williams has still found a way to keep his cool on the field. Sean Williams though has had a career of so far but not complete. He is a batter who could look very pleasing to the eye and is full of talent. Once set he finds runs with ease but often gets out to rash shots cutting short the promise on offer.

With the way his last two years have gone, this tournament could well be a part of the last dance of Sean Williams. At 36 there is no telling how much more time he could go on for especially after playing international cricket for nearly 18 years. Coming in with hopes of taking Zimbabwe to the World Cup, Sean Williams wasted no time. He started the tournament with Zimbabwe’s fastest ODI century against Nepal, making a hundred off 70 balls and followed it up with some quick cameos in the other game which helped change the momentum of the game.

Throughout the tournament, he has been pretty positive with his approach. Sean Williams though despite his positivity has not been too reckless. He has gauged the bowlers well and looked for the right moment to attack. An instance would be his knock against Nepal where Sean Williams was happy to knock the ball around until the spinners bowled into his areas allowing him to punish them.

With a stronger middle order behind him, Sean Williams has been given the license to go for his shots earlier. Sikandar Raza coming after him as helped loads with Raza providing a lot of experience in the back and hitting some really good form with both bat and ball. The pair have complimented each other well and this has been proven with Raza breaking the record set by Williams a game later as Raza made a hundred in 54 balls, setting a new Zimbabwe record.

The tournament has gone well for both Zimbabwe and Sean Williams. They are into the next round and a win against West Indies leaves them in a really good position with Zimbabwe getting some vital points carried into the Super 6 round.

Sean Williams though knows how important this tournament is. He was a part of the side that failed to qualify last time with Zimbabwe losing to UAE denting their chances big time. They’ve moved on over the five years though and are finally looking close to their old selves with their middle-order and bowling line-up finding some really good performers.

For Williams though this tournament could well be a memorable one. He has performed pretty well and a World Cup spot would leave him over the moon. At 36 his days are numbered and he will be eager to sign off leaving Zimbabwe in a better place than it was when he made his debut back in 2005.
