In addition to it, the inaugural edition champions, India are a cricketing powerhouse and will be entering the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with high expectations. Moreover, India have announced its 15-player squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024, led by Rohit Sharma, with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy. The tournament, set in the USA and West Indies, starts in June.

India initiates its journey against Ireland on June 5 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on June 9 at the same venue. With passionate support and unwavering determination, India aims to conquer the tournament and etch their name in T20 cricket folklore once again. On that note let us look at the probable playing XI for the Indian team;

Top Order

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are anticipated to open for the India T20 team, both demonstrating their prowess in the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli, currently the tournament’s top run-scorer, boasts 542 runs at an average of 67.75 and a strike rate of 148.09. Suryakumar Yadav, the world’s top-ranked T20I batter, is slated for the number three spot despite experiencing fluctuating form in the IPL. Recognized for his explosive capabilities in T20 cricket, Suryakumar remains a formidable force in the format.

Middle Order

The number four spot in the probable playing XI will be taken in by Shivam Dube. Dube has been a revelation in the last few editions of the IPL. In the ongoing IPL, the dynamic left-hand batter has scored 350 runs so far in the 11 innings so far. The number fifth spot will be taken in by the wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant. Pant has been sublime after his return to cricket after surviving a major accident. Pant has looked in terrific touch with the bat as well as with gloves behind the stumps. In the 11 games in IPL 2024, the southpaw has scored 398 runs with an amazing strike rate of 158.57.

All-rounders and Bowlers

The sixth slot will be taken in by the vice-captain of the Indian team, Hardik Pandya. Despite his poor outing in the ongoing IPL, the team would be banking on him based on his ability both with the bat as well as the ball in hand. The number seven position will be taken in by Ravindra Jadeja who has also struggled in the ongoing IPL both with bat as well as ball in hand. In the 11 games played so far in the tournament, Jadeja averages 50.50 has scored 202 runs, and has picked up eight wickets so far.

The number eighth slot will be taken in by Kuldeep Yadav who has had a pretty decent season so far in the tournament. In the 9 games so far in the tournament, Kuldeep has picked up 14 wickets. Also, a spinner of his caliber will be essential for the team India on slow West Indies wickets. The number ninth and Tenth slots will be taken in by pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Both the pacers have had a brilliant season so far and the Indian team would be relying on them heavily to work their magic with the new ball. The number nine will be the slot which is expected to change given the condition of pitch. If the pitch is spinner-friendly then Yuzvendra Chahal would be slotted in and if the pitch assists the pacer, the Mohammed Siraj can be picked.

Probable Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal/Mohammed Siraj
