India’s Journey in the T20 World Cup 2024

Group Stages

Match 1: India vs Ireland

India’s campaign kicked off in style with an eight-wicket victory against Ireland on 5 June at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The Indian fast bowlers dominated, with Hardik Pandya leading the attack, scalping three wickets, and being ably supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, who picked up two wickets each. India chased down the 97-run target in just 12.2 overs, thanks to strong performances from Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant.

Match 3: India vs USA

India registered a convincing seven-wicket win against co-hosts USA on 12 June at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Arshdeep Singh’s impressive spell, where he picked up four wickets for just nine runs, restricted USA to 110/8. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube’s steady knocks ensured India crossed the finish line with 10 balls to spare.

Super Eights

Match 4: India vs Afghanistan

Transitioning to the West Indies for the Super Eights stage, India began with a match against Afghanistan on 20 June at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive 53 runs, supported by Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, helped India put up 181 runs on the scoreboard.

Afghanistan were bowled out for 134, with Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picking three wickets each.

Match 5: India vs Bangladesh

India continued their winning streak with a dominating performance against Bangladesh on 22 June at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Quickfire contributions from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Shivam Dube set the tone, while Hardik Pandya’s blistering 50 off 27 balls powered India to 196/5.

The Indian bowlers then restricted Bangladesh to 146, with Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah being the key wicket-takers.

Match 6: India vs Australia

In a highly anticipated rematch of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final, India emerged victorious over Australia, securing their semi-final berth. Rohit Sharma’s fiery 92 off 41 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire 31 helped India set a 206-run target.

Although Travis Head (76 runs in 43 balls) threatened to ruin India’s party once again, wicket-taking spells from Arshdeep Singh (3/37) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/24) helped their side register a 24-run win. Despite Travis Head’s valiant effort, India won by 24 runs, thanks to effective spells from Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav.

Semi-Final

Match 7: India vs England

In the semi-finals, India avenged their 2022 loss to England with a decisive victory. Batting first, crucial contributions from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav helped India set a 172-run target. The Indian spinners dominated, restricting England to 103 runs and securing a 68-run win.

Defending the total, it was the spinners who drove India to a win, restricting England to 103 runs in 16.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel scalped three wickets each while Bumrah bagged two more.

The Final showdown

India vs South Africa

India faced early setbacks in the final, losing three key wickets quickly. However, Virat Kohli’s composed 76-run knock, supported by crucial contributions from lower-order batsmen, helped India post a fighting total of 176 runs.

With David Miller and Marco Jansen at the crease, SA faced a crucial 22-run challenge in the final three overs. Jasprit Bumrah stepped up when it mattered most, delivering a pivotal blow by dismissing Jansen in the 18th over.

With 20 required off the final 12 balls, Arshdeep Singh was entrusted with the ball and he leaked just 4 runs from the over. With 16 needed off the final over, vice-captain Hardik Pandya took the ball and dismissed Miller on the first ball with Suryakumar taking a stunning catch near the boundary ropes.

Kagiso Rabada then faced the next ball and managed to score a boundary. The following ball resulted in a bye. With 11 runs required off 3 balls, Maharaj took a single to return Rabada to strike. Needing 10 runs off 2 balls, Hardik Pandya bowled a wide. Surya then took another catch and sent Rabada back in the hut. With 9 required off the final ball, Nortje took a single and INDIA WIN THE WORLD CUP!!!!

Key wickets from Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh ensured India defended their total successfully, with Pandya delivering a nail-biting final over.
