Many players see victory in Test cricket as the peak of their careers, emphasising its difficulty and significance. Test cricket, the game's oldest format, has seen several world-class players flourish and contribute to their teams' successes. The format frequently creates spectacular matches that come down to the wire, engaging fans and setting new norms. It has seen teams win historic triumphs, often by batting first and amassing massive totals.

Even in the twenty-first century, these triumphs are highly significant, particularly when India wins by large percentages. Such victories please not only the victorious team but also the Indian cricket fanatics, resulting in spectacular moments of celebration. Here are the top five most memorable victories for the Indian cricket team.

4th Test vs Australia, Gabba (2020-21)

India's triumph over Australia in the fourth Test of the Border Gavaskar Series 2020-21 at The Gabba in Brisbane is regarded as one of India's greatest victories in Test cricket. The series was tied 1-1 heading into the fourth and final Test.

It was also mentioned that Australia was the favourite to win the last Test at the Gabba. Australia has never lost a Test match at The Gabba in 32 years. However, a determined Indian side made history by defeating Australia by three wickets at the same ground and won the series 2-1.

2nd Test vs England, Lord's (2021-22)

Winning a Test match at Lord's Cricket Ground versus England has been challenging. However, it was not impossible for a squad with a history of winning Tests abroad. India batted first in the second Test and scored 364 runs in the first innings. England captured eight wickets for 209 runs when India batted again.

However, an undefeated 89-run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami helped raise the total to 298. The combination provided India with a chance to win the match. India had only 60 overs to bowl out England. The seamers bowled their guts out and trashed England all out for 120 with eight overs remaining.

2nd Test vs Australia, Kolkata (2000-21)

Under Steve Waugh, Australia became an unbeatable team with two of the world's finest bowlers, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. The Australian juggernaut came to India on a 15-match winning streak, a world record. After losing the first Test in Mumbai, the youthful Indian team captained by Sourav Ganguly was under enormous pressure.

Then came the famous Kolkata Test, which transformed the direction of Indian cricket. This Kolkata contest lasted five days and featured many twists and turns. India will always be remembered for its incredible comeback due to a 376-run partnership between VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. Harbhajan Singh took 13 wickets in an exciting and decisive effort.

1st Test vs South Africa, Johannesburg (2006-07)

India's first Test match victory in South Africa was a historic event in Johannesburg in December 2006. The triumph ended a 14-year curse and marked a turning point in Indian cricket's global domination. The match was a thriller, with both sides trading punches over four days. India scored a decent 249 in their first innings, owing to a gritty half-century by Sourav Ganguly.

In response, South Africa was reduced to 84 runs. This handed India a whopping 165-run advantage, which they expanded to 401 after scoring 236 in the second innings. South Africa started strongly, but Anil Kumble's spin (3/54) proved too much for their middle order to chase down the nearly impossible score of 402 runs. They ultimately fell short by 123 runs, giving India a historic triumph.

3rd Test vs West Indies, Port of Spain (1976-77)

The West Indies defeated India in the first Test; India had collapsed in a tour match just two and a half days later, and chances for the away side to win in the second Test seemed vague. The West Indies scored 359 in the first innings, to which India responded with 228.

West Indies scored 271/6 in the second innings when Clive Lloyd declared the innings to win outright. Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath & GR Vishwanath batting display had different plans, and India triumphed by six wickets. They had chased down an inconceivable 403 to win. With the specified schedule and the Caribbean side's formidable armament, this is one of the most significant victories in Indian test cricket history.
