During the first T20I, Kieron Pollard achieved a rare feat of hitting 6 sixes in an over.

He joined the unique company of Yuvraj Singh, and Herschelle Gibbs, who are the only other players to have maximized an over in international Cricket.s

The milestone of Six sixes in an over has been achieved in domestic cricket on a number of occasions, but is a rare occasion in the international circuit.

Ravi Shastri, and Gary Sobers are among some of the names to have achieved the record in domestic Cricket, while there have been only three such incidents in the international circuit.

We will now be looking at the three incidents:

Herschelle Gibbs:

Game seven of the 2007 World Cup was an absolute run-fest for South Africa.

They took on Netherlands in the group stage, and batted first in a forty over game, and got of too a good start with Graeme Smith, and Jacques Kallis building a strong platform.

Herschelle Gibbs came into the middle with South Africa in a good position and began steadily.

He was 32 off 30 when Daan Van Bunge began the 30^th over.

It was in that particular over where Herschelle Gibbs launched.

He unleashed his big shots down the ground and completely took apart van Bunge.

The over gave South Africa a massive boost as they went on to make 353 in their forty overs.

The innings consisted of eighteen sixes, and Gibbs alone hit seven.

He finished with 72 off 40 balls, and South Africa won by a mammoth 221 runs.

The achievement was a first in World Cup Cricket, and all forms of international Cricket.

Yuvraj Singh:

A few months after Herschelle Gibbs hit 6 sixes in an over, Yuvraj Singh joined his company, although in the T20I format.

Taking part in the inaugural World T20 in 2007, Yuvraj Singh had a quiet tournament up until the England game.

After a good start from Virender Sehwag, and Gautam Gambhir, an eager Yuvraj Singh finally got to the middle in the 17th over.

From ball one of his innings, Yuvraj Singh seemed in good touch quickly getting three boundaries, and racing to fourteen off six.

After the 18^th over, He hada brief conversation with England’s Andrew Flintoff.

Post the conversation, a charged Yuvraj Singh had Stuart Broad in his sight, and took the pacer apart in the 19^th over.

He hit 6 sixes, and reached his half-century in a record twelve balls.

He was dismissed by Andrew Flintoff in the final over, but the damage was done as India made 218, and won by eighteen runs.

The incident however ignited a rivalry between Yuvraj Singh, and Stuart Broad as both faced a lot of hype while facing off.

Incidentally, Stuart Broad took a hat-trick in Test Cricket, which involved Yuvraj Singh in 2011.

Kieron Pollard:

The newest entry to the 6 sixes club, Kieron Pollard achieved the feat nearly fourteen years after the first incident by Gibbs.

Leading a strengthened West Indies side against Sri Lanka, the West Indies were chasing a modest score of 131.

The score was a low one, but a hat-trick from Akila Dananjaya spiced up the chase.

West Indies were 4-62 after a strong powerplay, and Dananjaya was bowling well.

He continued his spell, but the joy of taking a hat-trick was taken away instantly.

He tried to lure Pollard into a false shot, but the big man kept connecting, and sent each delivery out of the park.

It was a shocking over for the hat-trick hero, and Kieron Pollard wrote his name in the history books.

Pollard was dismissed in the following over for 38 of just 11 balls.

Dananjaya continued his spell and gave a seventh successive six with Holder hitting the first ball of his final over out of the park.

Barring the six, Dananjaya kept the over quiet, and finished with figures of 3-62.

The aggressive West Indies side finished the chase with four wickets and 41 balls to spare, and the 6 sixes from Pollard proved to be a massive boost with wickets falling at regular intervals.
