West Indies top-order batsman Amir Jangoo etched his name in the record books by registering the fastest century on ODI debut. The 27-year-old Trinidadian achieved this remarkable feat during the final ODI match that was played at Warner Park, Basseterre between West Indies and Bangladesh.
Batting at number six, Amir smashed an unbeaten 104 off 83 balls and remained unbeaten till the end to get his side over the line in a high-scoring run chase. During his innings, the flamboyant batter clobbered six fours and four sixes and built robust partnerships of 132 runs and 91 runs with Carty and Motie respectively to guide West Indies towards a hefty target of 322.

Jangoo smashed his way to a blistering century in the space of just 80 balls. And by doing so, he becomes the 18th batsman in world cricket to score a century on ODI debut. His 80-ball hundred is now the fastest century ever recorded in ODI cricket. Jangoo has surpassed the previous best record of Reeza Hendricks (South Africa) who took 89 balls to reach his century.
In addition, he is now the only Windies batsman after Desmond Haynes to score a century on ODI debut. The West Indian legend made his ODI debut against Australia in St John’s on February 22, 1978, where he scored 148 runs from 136 balls. Other high-profile players like Martin Guptill, KL Rahul, Andy Flower, and Iman ul Haq also have a century to their name on debut.
Jangoo has made 35 FC and 50 List-A appearances for his domestic side Trinidad and Tobago. He maintains a healthy average of 34.08 and 32.63 in FC and List-A cricket respectively. Moreover, he made his CPl debut in 2020 and has since then represented two franchise notably Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders.
