Anamul Haque to Step in as Replacement for Injured Bangladesh Skipper Shakib Al Hasan in World Cup 2023

Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh skipper, sustained a fracture on his left index finger during a match against Sri Lanka on November 7, 2023, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This injury, which occurred while he was batting, led to his unavailability for the remainder of the tournament. An X-ray examination confirmed the fracture, forcing him to miss the upcoming match against Australia, scheduled for November 11th in Pune.

Bayjedul Islam Khan, the physio of the Bangladesh men’s team, estimated a three to four-week recovery period for Shakib. He returned to Bangladesh on November 7 to commence his rehabilitation.

Khan explained, “Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game, which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab.”

The ICC has now officially approved Anamul Haque Bijoy as Shakib’s replacement for the final match against Australia, as stated on the ICC’s website.

Anamul Haque has accumulated a notable ODI career record, with 45 matches played and 1230 runs scored. The 30-year-old cricketer has achieved three centuries and five half-centuries during his ODI career.”
