Ravichandran Ashwin is set to rejoin the Indian cricket team on Day 4 of the ongoing Rajkot Test against England. Ashwin had temporarily withdrawn from the squad on Friday following a medical emergency.

BCCI release about Ashwin

Later it was reported that he had to leave the match to be with his unwell mother. On the second day of the Test match i.e. February 16, Friday Ashwin had claimed his 500th Test wicket in the first innings of the match. At the end of the day’s play on Friday, he had left for his home.

“Both R Ashwin and the team management are pleased to confirm that he will be back in action on Day 4 and will continue to contribute towards the team’s cause in the ongoing Test match,” a BCCI official release stated.

According to the rules, a player is required to spend as much time on the field after returning as one spends off the field before being allowed to take part in the game. But the umpires agreed to make an exemption for Ashwin.

India aiming for a good lead

India, however, did well in the absence of their experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. On Day 3 England had a collapse and they went from 224/2 to 319/10 in almost no time. India’s morale will be boosted by Ashwin’s return, and he will be able to strengthen both the batting and bowling department. Meanwhile, the target of the Indian cricket team would be to put up a good score on the board as England are aiming to complete yet another good chase.
