In the lead-up to the crucial World Cup match against Afghanistan, Australian cricket sensation Steve Smith is grappling with the challenges of vertigo. The contest is slated to unfold on Tuesday (November 7) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Smith has been wrestling with vertigo for an extended period, a medical condition characterized by dizziness and a spinning sensation, often accompanied by a loss of balance. He disclosed his battle with vertigo back in 2020 after notching a century in a mere 62 balls.
The right-handed batsman has expressed uncertainty about his participation in the game, but in the past, he ultimately opted to play, delivering a match-winning century for his team. Australia is fervently hoping that their star batter will remain fit and mirror his 2020 performance after conquering his bout of vertigo.

Steve Smith disclosed his latest bout with vertigo when addressing the media ahead of the match. According to journalist Bharat Sundaresan, the former Australia captain appeared discomforted and even missed the batting session with Australia’s initial batting group.
“Steve Smith, who appeared visibly uncomfortable during his press conference, shared that he’s currently grappling with vertigo and, for once, he’s not a part of the first batting group during practice. However, he did express confidence in his readiness for tomorrow’s game,” Sundaresan wrote on his X handle.
Regarding Steve Smith’s performance in the World Cup thus far, the Australian star has struggled to live up to his reputation. In seven games, he has amassed 205 runs at a modest average of 29 and a strike rate of under 90. He has managed just one half-century to date. With Australia seemingly on track for the semifinals, Smith is eager to regain his top form.
Australia currently stands third in the points table with two losses and five victories. They initially suffered two losses but subsequently secured five consecutive wins. While their place in the semifinals is not yet confirmed, they appear destined to qualify as they aim for an unprecedented sixth title.
