Russell Domingo, the head coach of Bangladesh, has resigned without finishing his term, which ran until the 2023 World Cup.

In September 2019, Domingo took over as head coach after Steve Rhodes was fired by the BCB following that year’s disastrous World Cup.

Jalal Yunus, chairman of the cricket operation for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, confirmed the development to sources on Wednesday.

“He( Domingo) sent his resignation letter yesterday (Tuesday) and that is with immediate effect,”

said Jalal.

Earlier on Monday, BCB president Nazmul Hasan gave the impression that, despite their satisfaction with Domingo’s performance, they might fire him because they want to change the coaching staff.

“We are moving with a long-term plan and that is not short-term. It is a three to four years plan and if changes are required (to implement those plans) that there will be changes,”

Nazmul told reporters when his attention was drawn to whether they are going to replace Domingo as he was not having a good time of late after BCB decided to sack him from all-format coaching head’s role and introduced Sridharan Sriram ahead of the Asia Cup.

Under Domingo’s direction, Bangladesh won the T20I series against Australia and New Zealand at home, as well as the Test in New Zealand and the ODI series in South Africa.

After winning the ODI series, which will be regarded as Domingo’s final assignment, Bangladesh suffered a clear defeat in the two-match Test series against India.
