After enduring a disappointing run since their highs of the Rawalpindi Test series, Bangladesh produced a clinical performance in Sabina Park to crush West Indies by a margin of 101 runs. Following their historic achievement, Bangladesh managed to square the series 1-1 thanks to some inspiring performances from Nahid Rana and Jaker Ali.

The win also marks their maiden Test win against West Indies in the Caribbean since 2009. Despite being bowled out for a dismal low of 164 in the first innings, Nahid Rana's ground-breaking five-fer sprung the visitors back to life as Bangladesh succeeded in restricting the hosts to 146.

Bangladesh were then able to capitalize on the 18-run lead as Jaker Ali slammed his career-best score of 91 (107) to stretch Bangladesh's lead to a significant 286 runs. Chasing 287 on a fourth day Sabina Park pitch proved way out of reach for West Indies as Taijul's 5-50 followed by twin blows from Taskin and Mahmud obliterated the home side for 185.

Records that made its way into the record books

This was Bangladesh's first Test win since the 2009 Test series which ended on a winning note for the tourists. Moreover, to be able to achieve such a ground-breaking feat without the likes of your experienced guns like Shakib, Rahim, and Shanto speaks volumes about the team's character and resilient mindset.

A look at some of the astonishing records set in the second Test:

  • Taijul collected his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests.
  • Mominul Haque bagged an unwanted record to his name and now holds the record for registering the most number of ducks (18) in Test cricket.
  • The speedster Nahid Rana registers his best figures of 5-61 in Test cricket.
  • Kraigg Brathwaite became the first West Indian to play 86 consecutive Test matches, surpassing the legendary Garfield Sobers, who played 85.
  • Jaker Ali registered his career-best Test innings of 91 (107) and took him just six innings to do so.

Both West Indies and Bangladesh are out of contention for reaching the 2023-25 WTC final and are teetering at the bottom of the table. The historic victory gave Bangladesh a slight points percentage boost of 6.25, taking them to 31.25. As a result, they gained a place, replacing West Indies as the second-last team on the table.
