Bangladesh create history with 2-0 Test series win in Pakistan

Visitors Bangladesh successfully chased the 185-run target in the fourth innings of the Rawalpindi Test against the hosts Pakistan to claim a historic Test series win by clean sweep.

Visitors Bangladesh successfully chased the 185-run target in the fourth innings of the Rawalpindi Test against the hosts Pakistan to claim a historic Test series win by clean sweep. 

The two-match Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh ended in a 2-0 victory for Bangladesh. On the final day of the Test series, Bangladesh needed 143 more runs to complete the Test series in a 2-0 clean sweep. 

Bangladesh won the last Test by six wickets

Starting the fifth day of the final Test of the series at 42/0, all the Bangladesh batters played crucial supporting knocks to secure a comfortable six-wicket win. Opener Zakir Hasan scored 40 off 39 balls, while his opening partner Shadman Islam scored 24 runs. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (38) and Mominul Haque (34) were dismissed in the 30s. 

Lastly, the senior duo Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) comfortably finished the game in the second session of the day.

Rawalpindi hosted both the Test matches of the series. Bangladesh recorded their first Test victory against Pakistan during the series opener, where the visitors won by 10 wickets. It was also Pakistan’s first 10-wicket Test defeat at home. 

In the second or last Test of the series, Bangladesh scripted a memorable story by scoring 262 all out after struggling at 26/6 in the reply to Pakistan’s first innings total of 274 runs. Litton Das, who won the Player of the Match, scored 138 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 78 runs after claiming a five-wicket haul in the first innings (5/61).

Pakistan scored 172 runs in their second innings as Bangladesh pacers first time collected all ten wickets in a Test innings. Hasan Mahmud claimed his first Test fifer (5/43), while another pacer Nahid Rana took four wickets (4/44).

Chasing down the 185-run target in the fourth innings, Bangladesh were in complete control through crucial partnerships. 

Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the Player of the Series award for scoring 155 runs and picking up 10 wickets in the series. He scored two half-centuries and also recorded one fifer and one four-wicket haul in the Test series.

With this away Test series win, Bangladesh have climbed to the fourth place in the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship points table (33 points after six Tests, 45.83% PCT). Meanwhile, Pakistan are in eighth place in a nine-team battle (16 points after seven Tests, 19.05% PCT). 

Bangladesh won the third away Test series

It was Bangladesh’s third away Test series win. After recording a 2-0 series win in a two-match Test series against the hosts West Indies in the 2009 tour, Bangladesh recorded their second away Test series victory by winning the one-off Test match against the hosts Zimbabwe in the 2021 tour.

Second time Bangladesh won more than one Test in an away tour

It was the second time Bangladesh won more than one Test match in an away Test series. During their West Indies tour in 2009, Bangladesh completed the two-match Test series with a 2-0 win.

Pakistan continued their recent embarrassing home Test records

Since March 2022, Pakistan haven’t won a home Test series. Out of their last four home Test series, Pakistan drew once against New Zealand with a 0-0 scoreline in a two-match Test series and lost the Test series against Australia, England, and the latest Bangladesh. Pakistan last time won a home Test match in February 2021, when they beat South Africa by 95 runs at Rawalpindi.
