The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the 15-member men’s ODI squad for the upcoming away ODI series against the hosts West Indies. The ODI series will begin after the end of the ongoing Test series in West Indies.

St Kitts in Basseterre will host all three ODIs between West Indies and Bangladesh. These three ODIs will be played on December 8, 10, and 12. After this three-match ODI series, West Indies will also host a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, as Kingstown will organise these matches on December 16, 18, and 20.

In the absence of regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue his leadership role in the upcoming ODI series. While Shanto is absent from the ongoing Test series in the West Indies due to his groin injury, Mehidy is leading Bangladesh in the Test series. After losing the first Test match of the series by 201 runs, Bangladesh are fighting in the ongoing second Test.

Shakib Al Hasan's status

Shakib Al Hasan hasn’t played an international match since completing the India tour last October. While the senior all-rounder is missing from the latest ODI squad for the West Indies tour, BCB president Faruque Ahmed has come up with the latest update on him. The president has claimed that Shakib isn’t in a mental state to play for the country.

Recently, Shakib led the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10. In seven matches, the left-handed batter scored 63 runs, and the left-arm spinner picked up five wickets.

BCB president Faruque Ahmed has claimed that Shakib is still on the selection list for the ODI format. However, he further added that the all-rounder needed proper preparation and activeness with the team to represent the nation in the ODI format.

Other key names joining and missing

While the experienced cricketer Litton Das has joined the ODI squad after missing the last ODI series against Afghanistan in Sharjah, where Afghanistan won the ODI series by 2-1, the middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy will miss the upcoming ODI series due to his groin injury. Recently, Hridoy was injured while playing football. While Mustafizur Rahman will miss the forthcoming ODI series due to personal reasons, Mushfiqur Rahim is recovering from a finger injury.
