The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering appointing former New Zealand captain, Stephen Fleming, as the Head Coach of the Indian Men’s Team. Rahul Dravid, the current coach, is set to conclude his tenure after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The prospective coach would lead the team for a term of three and a half years, until December 31, 2027.
The coach of the Chennai Super Kings is a renowned figure in the coaching realm, having led the franchise to five titles in the Indian Premier League. With a tenure of 16 years, he holds the record for the longest-serving coach in IPL history. Given his close collaboration with Indian players during his coaching tenure, the 51-year-old emerges as a strong contender for the prestigious role with the Indian cricket team.

Initially scheduled to conclude at the end of the 2023 World Cup, Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure was extended by an additional five months. Despite the opportunity to reapply, prospects for his continued role appear dim.
Another prominent candidate under consideration is former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman. Laxman previously filled in as head coach during Dravid’s sabbatical and also coached the Indian team to a gold medal victory in the 2023 Asian Games.
