The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced significant changes to the venue schedule for India's upcoming T20I matches in the home season. These adjustments affect the series against Bangladesh and England, with the changes driven by logistical and infrastructural considerations.
IND vs BAN T20I venue shifted from Dharamsala to Gwalior
The much-anticipated first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially scheduled to take place in Dharamsala on October 6th, 2024, has now been relocated to Gwalior. The BCCI cited ongoing renovation work in the dressing rooms at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala as the primary reason for the venue change. The upgrades are expected to enhance the facilities at the stadium, but the current state of the renovations made it necessary to shift the match to an alternative location.
Chennai-Kolkata swap venues for ENG T20I matches
In addition to the changes for the Bangladesh series, the BCCI has also adjusted the venues for the first and second T20I matches in the series against England. Originally, Chennai was set to host the first T20I on January 22nd, 2025, and Kolkata was scheduled for the second T20I on January 25th, 2025. However, these venues have now been swapped. Kolkata will now host the opening T20I, while Chennai will take over the duties for the second match.
This change was prompted by a request from Kolkata Police, who cited prior commitments related to Republic Day celebrations, leading the Cricket Association of Bengal to approach the BCCI for a venue swap. The BCCI agreed to the request, ensuring that the matches would proceed smoothly without any logistical conflicts.
These adjustments highlight the BCCI's commitment to ensuring that the matches are conducted seamlessly, accommodating the needs of both the teams and the local authorities. Fans can look forward to thrilling cricket action at the newly assigned venues.
