Chad Bowes has rewritten the record books by scoring the fastest men's List A double century in history. Playing for Canterbury in their Ford Trophy clash against Otago, Bowes reached his milestone in just 103 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Australia's Travis Head and India’s N Jagadeesan. Bowes’ blistering knock of 205 off 110 deliveries helped Canterbury post a formidable total, ultimately leading to a commanding victory.

Bowes breaks record with stunning double-century

Chad Bowes smashed his way into the history books on Wednesday with a breathtaking innings of 205 from 110 balls, setting a new record for the fastest men's List A double century. He surpassed the previous record held by Travis Head and N Jagadeesan, who both took 114 deliveries to reach the milestone. Bowes' remarkable performance included 27 boundaries and 7 sixes, propelling Canterbury to 343/9 in their Ford Trophy match at Hagley Oval.

Despite losing his opening partner early, Bowes continued his aggressive approach, reaching his century in just 53 balls and doubling it with only 50 more deliveries. This innings marked Bowes' best List A score, obliterating his previous high of 126. His explosive knock was crucial in Canterbury’s massive 240-run victory, as Otago were bowled out for just 103.

A memorable day for Bowes

Reflecting on his innings, Bowes expressed his disbelief and joy at achieving such a milestone on his 100th List A match. “It might sink in over the next day or two, but obviously a great day here at Hagley and a good occasion to do something special,” he remarked. Despite losing wickets at the other end, Bowes maintained his rhythm, consistently finding the middle of the bat to keep the pressure on Otago’s bowlers.

His efforts were supported by a late contribution from No. 8 batter Zakary Foulkes, whose 46-ball 49 added crucial runs to Canterbury’s total. Matthew Bacon, Otago’s best bowler, took 5 wickets, including Bowes' dismissal in the 39th over. However, his efforts were not enough to prevent Otago’s collapse as they were comprehensively beaten.
