Veteran India batter Cheteshwar Pujara smashed his 25th Ranji Trophy century in the second round for Saurashtra against Chattisgarh in Rajkot. Batting on Monday, Pujara reached his ton in 197 balls as Saurashtra pursued Chattisgarh’s 578/7d first-innings total as well. However, Pujara scored his 66th First-Class century, surpassing Brian Lara’s tally in the format as well.

Among Indians, Pujara is the fourth-highest run-scorer and century-maker in First Class cricket, only behind Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid as well.

However, Pujara also surpassed 21,000 FC runs during the stunning knock in his 273rd match as well. Despite being out from the Indian Test team since last year’s World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval, Pujara has continued to score runs in the red-ball cricket. The veteran smashed 829 runs in the previous Ranji Trophy season, averaging 69.08 across eight matches as well.

In 2024, Pujara has so far hit six centuries across 16 first-class matches while playing for Saurashtra and Sussex in the County Championship as well.
