Ireland vanquished Netherlands by seven wickets in the Group A Round 1 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Chasing a target of 107, Ireland concluded with 107/3 in 15.1 overs. Paul Stirling remained unbeaten after smashing 30 in 39 balls and Curtis Campher taking 4 wickets in 4 balls.

The ICC T20 World Cup is still a few days away,which will be starting from 24th October, but the qualifiers are turning out to be the perfect pre-beginning to the tournament with dramatic matches and performances keeping us hooked to the screen.

While the Scots were the major headlines on Sunday vanquishing the strong Bangladesh team, on Monday it was Curtis Campher from Ireland who took the limelight, becoming the third player after Malinga and Rashid Khan to take four wickets in four balls in international cricket. With Curtis’ versatile bowling, Ireland outdid the Netherlands in a Group A qualifying match of the T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Ireland chased a run target of 106 in 15.1 overs making a total of 107/3, winning by 7 wickets. Gareth Delany (44) and Paul Stirling (30 not out) showed their  batting skills for Ireland, whereas Netherlands failed to make use of the Powerplay, managing just 25/2 in the first six overs. Curtis, being the first Ireland bowler to get a hat-trick in T20Is, and made a four in four when Roelof van der Merwe got onto his stumps.

Curtis, who played U-19 cricket for the Proteas and moved to Ireland in early 2020, making a record at such a young phase in his life joining other legends like Lasith Malinga and Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, owning the rare feat of taking four wickets off four balls in international cricket. This year’s T20 World Cup has so many young faces to look forward to and the competitions amongst the teams will be high.
