In the fourth match of the IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals will host Lucknow Super Giants at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Both teams are ready to start IPL 2025 with this evening match on Monday (March 24).

Both Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants missed out on their Playoffs qualification in the IPL 2024 by finishing in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively. The IPL 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals failed to reach the Playoffs last three seasons. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants, who made their IPL debut in the 2022 season, played the Eliminator round in their first two seasons (2022 and 2023), which are their best records in an IPL season.

Last season (IPL 2024), Delhi Capitals were never in a comfortable position. Their slow growth from the beginning made their job tougher, and despite winning four out of their last six games, they were one point short of qualifying for the Playoffs (despite having the same points as the fourth-placed team, DC couldn't fight due to a lower run rate). Capitals also suffered some big defeats which hampered their net run rate.

Meanwhile, unlike Delhi Capitals' struggling start in the IPL 2024, LSG recorded three wins out of their first four matches. However, they were inconsistent later and lost the plots. Just like Delhi Capitals, LSG ended with the same points but with a poorer net run rate, which was especially affected by their two back-to-back big defeats against Kolkata Knight Riders (by 98 runs) and SunRisers Hyderabad (by 10 wickets with 62 balls remaining).

IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants ready to start with new leadership

Both teams are ready to start the IPL 2025 under new captains. Former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul is now in Delhi Capitals, where he reportedly turned down the captaincy role request. While Axar Patel is set to lead Capitals in the IPL 2025 season, who previously captained the team once in the absence of regular captain, former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis is now the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals in the new season. 

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, the former Delhi Capitals captain, is now the new skipper for the Lucknow Super Giants, who bought him from the latest mega auctions for the record-breaking INR 27 crore. 

Both teams are looking at the IPL 2025 completely in a fresh way, and starting the season with a victory will boost their early confidence.
