Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined a huge amount of Rs 12 lakh for breaching the code of conduct of IPL during his team’s first win of IPL 2024 as they beat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Vizag on Sunday night comfortably.
Rishabh Pant, playing in his first IPL season since 2022, will have to sort the issue after his team was found to have maintained a slow over rate against CSK at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium as well.
“As it was his (Pant’s) team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” read a statement from IPL.
However, the penalty won’t matter much as Rishabh Pant who played a stunning role in Delhi Capitals’ first win of the ongoing season as well. The DC captain scored a quick fifty to help his side to a challenging total of 191/5 against CSK as well.

However, Delhi Capitals shuffled their batting order after starting their campaign with back-to-back losses as well. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw played his first game of this season and he opened alongside David Warner with the pair giving an excellent start by adding 93 runs as well.
Warner scored a quickfire fifty (51 off 35) and Pant who batted at no. 3 played a swashbuckling knock as well. However, Shaw soon got out on 43 followed by DC losing two more wickets in quick succession as well.
Rishabh Pant smashed a 32-ball 51 with four fours and three sixes and he was dismissed in the penultimate over of the Delhi Capitals innings as well. However, Delhi Capitals bowlers then did an excellent performance to restrict the total, reducing CSK to 7/2 in 2.5 overs before the middle-order steadied the ship.
But, regular dismissals didn’t help CSK. Although fans got to witness MS Dhoni’s stunning knock of 37 off 16 with four fours and three sixes, his knock went in vain as he failed to take the team home.
