Following a resounding victory over England in Rajkot, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma hinted at KL Rahul’s impending return to the team, suggesting that the batsman “should be okay.” This statement came amidst speculation surrounding Rahul’s fitness status, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announcing that he had achieved 90% match fitness. Despite this progress, Rahul has been ruled out of the upcoming fourth Test in Ranchi, commencing on February 23.
Upon the Indian cricket team’s arrival in Ranchi on Tuesday, Rahul was notably absent from the squad, which traveled via a private charter from Rajkot. Initial expectations were for the experienced right-hander to join the team directly in Ranchi. However, a late-night press release from the BCCI dashed those hopes, confirming Rahul’s exclusion from the fourth Test. He is “ruled out of the 4th Test. His participation in the final Test match in Dharamsala is subject to fitness”.

The BCCI’s media advisory provided limited information regarding Rahul’s situation, leaving fans and pundits alike curious about the specifics of his injury. Despite attempts to seek clarification from key figures such as a senior BCCI official, chairman of men’s senior selection committee Ajit Agarkar, and coach Rahul Dravid, CricketNext was unable to elicit a response from any of them.
As speculation continues to swirl, fans eagerly await updates on Rahul’s condition and his potential return to the Indian cricket squad for future matches.
The squad of India’s 4th Test is going to be like: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.
