Veteran Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik (912 runs) has surpassed former RCB player as well as the head coach of the Indian Team, Rahul Dravid (898 runs) to become the second-highest Indian batter to score the most runs for RCB in the Indian Premier League.

However, Dinesh Karthik played a quickfire knock of 18 runs off 7 balls in the PBKS vs RCB IPL 2024 clash and achieved the milestone. Notably, star batter Virat Kohli leads the chart with a whopping 7897 runs as well.

However, a total of six batters have managed to score more than 1000 runs in the IPL for RCB so far, but five of them are overseas players as well. Former South African captain Ab de Villiers finished his career with 4491 runs in 156 IPL matches whereas Chris Gayle amassed a total of 3163 runs in 85 games.

Dinesh Karthik has been in great form

Faf du Plessis, who is leading the RCB in IPL 2024, has scored 1559 runs in 42 matches, and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has 1250 runs to his name in
50 IPL matches for the RCB as well. Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis also smashed 1132 runs. Among Indian batters, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik are followed by Dravid (898), Devdutt Padikkal (884), Parthiv Patel (731), and Rajat Patidar (672) as well.

In the 58th match between Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, PBKS won the toss and elected to field first. Put into bat, RCB lost two quick wickets before Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar steadied the ship and later on, Cameron Green also scored well and posted 241 runs in 20 overs. However, Dinesh Karthik, who has been in a sublime form this season, also smashed a quickfire 7-ball 18.

While chasing, PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh quickly but Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw got off to a quick start. Shashank Singh also scored 37 off 19 with 4 fours and 2 sixes as well. While Sam Curran tried with a quick 22 runs, their efforts were not enough as they got out for 181 as well.

“That was a good game” – Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis, the RCB skipper said after the convincing win: “That was a good game. We have scored 200-plus in the last 5-6 games. We have had good conversations, we were making the same mistakes over and over again. Needed aggression with the bat. We just spoke about taking wickets. We have 6-7 options in the bowling department. You need some form in your side.

With a bit of luck is also required. We had a few guys looking for wickets and runs at the start of the tournament. The boys have shown character to turn it around. Everyone has chipped in with runs and the bowlers are taking wickets. For us it’s important to focus on ourselves. We want to stick to the style of play that we want to do, if we do that it’ll prove we are a really good team.”
