Former India player Dinesh Karthik said that star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah should be rested for India’s third and final Test against New Zealand. He also said that the hosts should bring back another speedster Mohammed Siraj for the match, starting November 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as well.

Siraj played in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru but he was replaced by Akash Deep for the second game at the MCA Stadium in Pune. However, Bumrah did not have great outings in the first two Tests after he picked up only three wickets at an economy rate of 3.09 as well.

Jasprit Bumrah didn't have a great time vs New Zealand

“Jasprit Bumrah definitely needs a rest without a doubt. That is happening, and you will see Mohammed Siraj come in. I can’t think of any other change unless someone has a niggle. I don’t see any reason why the batters who played this game or the bowlers should not get an opportunity,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

Earlier, Team India’s decade-long winning streak in the home Test series ended after New Zealand beat them by a 2-0 lead with one Test match in hand. On Saturday, Team India lost by 113 runs in Pune after starting with an eight-wicket defeat in Bengaluru as well.

‘Not able to think very clearly’ - Dinesh Karthik after India's loss

After being asked to chase down a target of 359, the hosts were bundled out for 245 in their second innings. And, Karthik was heartbroken after Team India failed to make a comeback in the Bengaluru Test as well.

“The loss and the disappointment of the defeat are still weighing very heavily on my mind. I am not able to think very clearly what the XI will be. It’s too short a notice to be honest. But if I had to think straight away, I would say rest Bumrah and bring back Siraj,” Karthik further added.

After the Tests against the New Zealand team, India will travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting with the Perth Test on November 22 as well.
