England was close to being eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. However, with two wins in a row over Oman and Namibia, they turned things around and qualified for the Super Eights based on Net Run Rate (NRR). They then defeated West Indies and the USA in the Super Eights and have now reached the semi-finals, where they will face undefeated India.
Before the big match at Providence Stadium in Guyana, England captain Jos Buttler acknowledged that India would play aggressively and assured that England would match their style. He praised Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 92 runs off 41 balls in the last match against Australia.
“We’re facing a very different India here. Rohit leads his team with a lot of freedom and aggression,” Buttler told.
“That change happened after the 2022 tournament, and they played the same way in the 50-over World Cup. They’re confident in their style, and we have to be ready for it. We know they’ll be aggressive, and we’ll respond in kind,” he added.
The weather forecast for Guyana during the match is not promising, with a high chance of rain and no reserve day scheduled, unlike the other semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan. If the match is washed out, India will advance to the final since they finished top of the group in the Super Eights.
Buttler commented on the situation, saying there’s nothing England can do about the weather but remains hopeful for a full game after talking to the locals.
“You can only control what you can control,” Buttler said. “We’ll just wait and see and be ready for whatever comes. Usually, when people worry about the weather, you end up getting the full game in,” Buttler concluded.
