Legendary New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the England men’s Test cricket team, will also take up the head coach role of the England men’s ODI and T20I teams.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced Brendon McCullum’s contract extension along with additional roles in the white-ball formats.

Brendon McCullum will start the head coach roles of English ODI and T20I teams in January 2015

McCullum joined the England Test team as the head coach in May 2022. He has now extended his contract until the end of 2027. He will start his head coach role of the English Test, ODI, and T20I teams under the new contract in January 2015, when England will tour India for the five-match T20I and three-match ODI series.

After completing the white-ball tour in India, England will travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Marcus Trescothick will stay as interim head coach for the home series against Australia and the West Indies tour

Former English opener Marcus Trescothick will take up the England head coach role for the upcoming home white-ball series against Australia and their West Indies tour for the white-ball series.

After the ongoing home three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, McCullum will take a short break and return home.

England will host the three-match T20I and five-match ODI series against Australia, starting September 11. Trescothick will play the head coach role for these home series.

Then, McCullum will return for the Pakistan tour, where England will play a three-match Test series against the hosts, starting October 7.

Trescothick will then again play his interim head coach role for the English team during their West Indies tour. In this tour, England will play three ODIs and five T20Is from October 31.

McCullum will then join the England team for their New Zealand tour, where they will play a three-match Test series, starting on November 28.

McCullum’s contract extension clearly means that the former New Zealand cricketer will serve the head coach role in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

I’m excited to extend my role to include the white-ball sides: Brendon McCullum

On his contract extension with the additional head coach roles in the white-ball formats, McCullum officially stated, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Test team, and I’m excited to extend my role to include the white-ball sides. This new challenge is something I’m ready to embrace, and I’m eager to work closely with Jos (Buttler) and the team to build on the strong foundations that are already in place.”

Defending champions England performed horribly at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, where they finished in seventh place after winning only three games out of nine league-stage matches.

Meanwhile, at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and United States, the defending champions England were semifinalists, where they lost against India.
