Defending champions Pakistan are out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after losing to New Zealand and India in the group stage matches. They still have one match left against Bangladesh, but former women's team captain Sana Mir believes that the Pakistan squad is weak from the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Speaking on PTV Sports, Mir said that. "A friend messaged me while we were watching the match against India. When the second wicket fell at 100, my friend said, 'I think it's over.' I replied, 'No, it was over the day we announced the squad.' We had already lost more than half the tournament when we picked these 15 players."

'Even @msdhoni as captain can't do anything with this Pakistan team'

She said that best captains couldn’t have done much with this team. "You could make MS Dhoni or Younis Khan the captain, but even they wouldn’t be able to change things. This squad just wasn’t right for our conditions. Like Hafeez bhai said, one match was always going to be in Dubai, so why did we go with only two part-time spinners? Abrar is still new to ODIs and has taken just two wickets in the last five months."
Mir also questioned the team selection, especially the decision to leave out Mohammad Haris. "We always talk about playing with intent, and Haris is a player who plays fearlessly. But he was dropped just because he struggled in a few matches in the West Indies. How can players play freely when their selection is based only on numbers?"

Pakistan’s squad selection was not good, with Saim Ayub missing out due to injury and Fakhar Zaman ruled out after the first match due to leg fracture. Their pace attack Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf are out of form, and their part-time spinners didn’t work.
Mir said Pakistan’s cricket needs big changes. "Too much control isn’t good, and neither is too little. If we keep making the same mistakes, nothing will get better. The problem is that every time PCB gets new leadership, one person decides how domestic cricket should run, and the people under him stay silent. That’s why nothing ever really changes."
