ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be played this October in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It will be the ninth edition of the women’s T20 World Cup. Ten teams are ready for the upcoming women’s T20 World Cup. 

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Hosting Rights

Bangladesh has the hosting rights to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Although Bangladesh was ready to host the upcoming ICC tournament, it was forced to shift the tournament to another country due to recent political turmoil and tension in Bangladesh.

While Bangladesh has retained the hosting rights of the ninth women’s T20 World Cup, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the entire tournament. Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah) and Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai) will host the entire forthcoming women’s T20 World Cup. 

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Beginning and ending dates; Number of matches

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will start on October 3, 2024. The tournament will have 23 games, and the final of the tournament will be played on October 20, 2024, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. 

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Number of teams

A total of ten teams will participate in this upcoming tournament. Bangladesh Women are the hosts, while Australia Women, India Women, South Africa Women, England Women, New Zealand Women, and West Indies Women have directly qualified for finishing in the top six of the previous ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament (2023). 

Also, Pakistan Women earned the direct qualification through the ICC rankings on February 27, 2023. 

Sri Lanka Women and Scotland Women have qualified for the upcoming tournament after reaching the final of the qualifiers. 

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Defending champions

Australia Women are the defending champions of the ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Out of eight previous women’s T20 World Cups, Australia Women played finals in all last seven editions and won six trophies (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023), including the last three tournaments (2018, 2020, and 2023).

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Formats, Groups, and complete schedule

The ninth edition of the women’s T20 World Cup will begin with the group stage. Ten teams have been divided into two groups with five teams each. In the group stage, each team will face all other teams in the respective group.

Group A: Australia Women, India Women, Pakistan Women, Sri Lanka Women, and New Zealand Women.

Group B: South Africa Women, West Indies Women, England Women, Bangladesh Women, Scotland Women.

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams of each group will advance to the semi-finals. Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the first semi-final on October 17 and 

Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host the second semi-final on October 18. 

Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the final of the tournament on October 20.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Official event song

On September 23, 2024, the ICC officially launched the event song titled “Whatever It Takes”. All-girl pop group W.i.S.H has been featured in this song. Mikey McClearly is the music director and Parth Parekh is a composer. Bay Music House has produced this music.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Prize money

On September 17, 2024, the ICC officially announced the prize money for this event. The total prize money for this event is US$7,958,080. The champions will receive US$2,340,000, and the runners-up will earn US$1,170,000. Also, the other two semifinalists will earn US$675,000 each.
