Dodda Ganesh, a former Indian fast bowler has been named the new head coach of Kenya's cricket team on a one-year contract. Ganesh who played four Test matches and one ODI for India, took five wickets during his international career.

"Honored to be appointed as the head coach of the Kenya cricket team," Ganesh shared on X (formerly Twitter).

"My main goal is to help the team qualify for the World Cup," Ganesh told Nami Nation after his introduction at the Sikh Union Club.

Kenya's past World Cup performances and future aspirations

Kenya has participated in four ODI World Cups in 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2011 and one T20 World Cup in 2007. Their best performance was in 2003 when they reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup.

"Kenya competed in the World Cups in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. I saw the commitment and hard work. I don't know what changed in the last decade, but I prefer to focus on the future. I see the potential for Kenyans to be champions," Ganesh said.

Ganesh's impressive domestic career with Karnataka

Ganesh had a successful domestic career with Karnataka, taking 365 wickets in 104 first-class matches at an average of 29.42, including 20 five-wicket hauls. He also played 89 List A games, where he took 128 wickets at an average of 27.11.

Upcoming challenge: ICC World Cup challenge league in September

Kenya's next challenge is the ICC World Cup Challenge League in September, where they will compete against teams like Papua New Guinea, Denmark, Kuwait, Jersey, and Qatar.

Before taking on this role, the 51-year-old coach did some research on YouTube, watching the Kenyan bowlers and batsmen. "They are in good shape," he said confidently.
