Although New Zealand Women won the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 against West Indies Women, the Caribbean star Deandra Dottin had an unforgettable night both with the ball and the bat.

Sharjah hosted the second semi-final between West Indies Women and New Zealand on Friday. While New Zealand Women scored 128/9 after winning the toss, West Indies Women only managed to score 120/8.

However, Dottin had a great night. Her bowling helped the Caribbean team to make a comeback in the game strongly, and her explosive batting suddenly opened up a new hope in deteriorating West Indies innings.

The right-arm medium-fast bowler Dottin took four wickets in the first innings (4/22), as she became the first bowler to record more than two four+ wicket hauls in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Deandra Dottin smashed three sixes in an over

Chasing the 129-run target, West Indies were already struggling at 63/5 in the 14th over. The Caribbean team had the major hope in the game with Deandra Dottin. Before the 16th over, West Indies Women scored 72/5, as they required 57 runs off 30 balls.

The right-arm pacer Lea Tahuhu came to bowl the 16th over. It was a game-changing over, where Dottin hit three sixes. Dottin welcomed Tahuhu with a sixer over deep mid-wicket that traveled to 79 meters.

On the fifth and sixth balls of the 16th over, Dottin smashed two consecutive sixes over deep mid-wicket and wide long-on, respectively. Dottin’s batting settled the narrowly as West Indies Women needed 34 runs off 24 balls, as the Caribbean team scored 23 runs in that over.

However, dependable Amelia Kerr had the last laugh as she dismissed Dottin in the next over, who scored 33 runs off 22 balls.

Dottin is a queen of sixer

In the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, only Dottin has smashed more than two sixes in an innings. While there are only Caribbean names in the list of more than one sixes in an innings of this tournament, Dottin recorded it four times apart from Qiana Joseph recording it one time.

With nine sixes, Dottin is far ahead of others in the list of most sixes in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Qiana Joseph is in the next place with three sixes.

Meanwhile, in the list of the most sixes in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history, Dottin is leading with 31 sixes, while New Zealander Sophie Devine and Indian Harmanpreet Kaur are jointly in second place with 19 sixes each.
