Has Indian captain Rohit Sharma finally retired from Test cricket? Some believed he would hang it up early after an arduous series in Australia where India were 3-1 and Rohit scored just 31 in five Tests. He wasn't even in the fifth Test; it has taken a while for those Test Darwin Rumours!! The last person to come out and say this was India coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gambir’s view: it’s about impact, not just runs
Rohit’s scores are too low, Gambhir does not think. “You consider the runs and averages, but we obviously look at the impact,” he says in a press conference. He argues that Rohit is still very important for a team, as far as a leader and the energy. For the official, it was also great that Gambhir didn't think Rohit was stubborn enough to retire at the first sign of form. That's a good captain call, he stated.
Rumors of Tension: Truth or Hype? Reports also tell us that this off the field matters, as Gambhir was reportedly unhappy with Rohit changing his mind after the fourth Test in Melbourne. A few perceived the coach and captain relationship was not good. But Gambhir snuffed that myth, saying it was many times more than just stats. He also added that Rohit will be a key player in the Champions Trophy 2025.

All the propaganda against Rohit Sharma has been shattered; he has given a lesson on modern-day cricket to the foolish people!

Rohit: “I’m not done yet”
Rohit himself said he’s not retiring yet. “I’m not moving away from the game,” he told reporters during the Sydney Test. He explained that sitting out was just about his form, not a sign of quitting. At 37, he still wants to lead India and win more trophies, especially after retiring from T20 cricket last year.
Looking Ahead: A big year for Rohit
The retirement talk isn’t going away, but Gambhir and Rohit seem focused on the present. With the Champions Trophy coming up, Rohit will get a chance to prove he’s still got it. Gambhir backs him, saying, “He’s hungry to play for India.” For now, it looks like Rohit’s story in cricket isn’t over and his coach is in his corner.
