Graeme Smith is asking the South African board to take a call on Faf Du Plessis. Du Plessis has retired from Test Cricket in early 2021, but is still an active player in both ODI and T20I Cricket. He is an active player in many leagues across the globe, and without a national contract, Faf Du Plessis is enjoying a career as a freelance cricketer.

In the past though, Du Plessis has expressed interest in taking part in the upcoming World Cups. The question though is his availability. With Faf Du Plessis not turning up for international cricket and not centrally contracted, Graeme Smith has raised a question. Graeme Smith is seeking clarity on how much time Faf Du Plessis can give to the national team.

Whether Faf Du Plessis makes it straight to the World Cup are gets some game time is yet to be seen. With the middle-order having a few slots free though, Du Plessis’s entry could help strengthen the line-up. A middle-order with Aiden Markram, Du Plessis, David Miller and Rassie Van Der Dussen looks very solid. Adding Quinton De Kock at the top makes the line-up even better.

Earlier, Du Plessis did have interest in the 2021 edition of the World Cup but wasn’t considered for selection as he did not turn up for any international fixture before the tournament. As of now, Graeme Smith may want him in the build-up to the tournament. Few games in the side may help create a settled dressing room. With hardly a few months left, Faf Du Plessis and CSA have some decisions ahead of them. When it comes to form, Du Plessis is still at his best. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL in 2021. In 2022, Du Plessis did well as skipper and also made 468 runs. His ability is still the same and he is still as fit as ever. With South Africa looking for their best eleven, Du Plessis’s decision may come as a huge boost to them.
