In a high-octane clash at the IPL 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off a thrilling 6-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 26. The encounter was filled with fireworks, momentum shifts, and standout individual performances that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Gujarat Titans Innings

GT did a good job with the bat, scoring 180/6 in their 20 overs. The innings was sustained by an excellent opening stand between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who scored 120 runs for the first wicket. Gill made a classy 60 off 38 balls, while Sudharsan made 56 off 37 balls, both of them batting with excellent composure and timing. But after the openers were removed, the middle order was unable to sustain the momentum. Jos Buttler (11), Sherfane Rutherford (22), and David Miller (7) were unable to pick up the pace. LSG bowlers mounted a solid fightback in the death overs, with Ravi Bishnoi picking up 2 wickets and Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur contributing one wicket each.

Lucknow Super Giants Innings

Pursuing 181, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) began in a confident manner and chased the target successfully in 19.3 overs, making 186/4. Aiden Markram set the tone for the chase with a rapid 58 off 31 balls, and Rishabh Pant chipped in 21 in a late cameo. Nicholas Pooran is the hero of the innings, finishing with the match-winning score of 61 off a mere 34 balls, including a blistering half-century off only 23 balls. At the end, when the match was about to end, Ayush Badoni remained calm and closed out the game with a classy six. In spite of decent efforts from GT bowlers such as Prasidh Krishna (2 wickets) and Rashid Khan (1 wicket), LSG registered a nail-biting 6-wicket win with three balls remaining.

Post-Match Reactions

  • Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): The wicket wasn't easy to hit from the get-go. The conversation was about to go onto 18 overs and play 50-60 balls once a batter was set so we can get to a total like 200-220. Losing back-to-back wickets didn't help our cause. It wasn't an easy wicket to start for any batter. The ball was stopping a bit. Our strike rotation in the middle wasn't as good as we expected, and it's something we need to work on.  Always looking to take wickets, and that was the conversation. Yes, we were behind in the game, but if we get 2-3 wickets, we can take the game deep. Yes, we took the game deep. We got a few wickets after the 10th over, but the ball didn't stop as much as we thought it would. There was some dew in the last phase of the second innings. The ball didn't stop that much in the back end of the run chase. Fighting till the end was a good sign for us. This was the conversation in the second time-out: "We'll take it as deep as possible. Thank you, guys."
  • Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants Captain): "Definitely feeling happy. Just following the same path, believing in each other's ability, and just taking one match at a time. I think the idea was to bowl yorkers and into the wickets. The bowlers executed the plans well, and it was good to see as a captain. The way it went, I wasn't too happy in the beginning, but it is a T20 game. You can be put under pressure but the way they pulled things back was amazing. With every game, I am feeling better. Today, Marsh gave me an opportunity. I thought the more I spent time on the wicket, it will help me. It is about a feel-good factor. It is a team game and eventually, you want to win games and put your best foot forward. I think one thing is for sure. We are happy to have Nicholas Pooran in our team. It is better to have him in your team rather than bowling to him. The way he has been batting is phenomenal."

  • Aiden Markram (POTM): "Yeah, definitely slow.  You want to start the competition ahead of the game. A slight change of role and it probably is about getting accustomed to it. Didn't come off in the first few but grateful that last few knocks have been better. Yeah, it can be a bit of both. Schedules are packed. Conditions are always changing. Guys can hit sixes for fun; it might not be my strength, so back what you are good at. You can very easily. Initially in the competition, I thought I needed to change my game and find a way to hit boundaries as often as they do. You have to stick to your game, if the team can benefit from it, it is good. It did change a bit. In the hot sun, it was slow. We were expecting a change, but under the lights, it played better. If we play a day game again, we have to keep this in mind. Finding partnerships will be ideal as batting gets better in the second innings."
