A decade and a half ago, Bangladesh brought in a group of young teenagers who turned out to carry the side for the next fifteen years. Ireland had similar talent in the start. The likes of Kevin O’Brien, Neil O’Brien, Porterfield, and the likes of Stirling and Dockrell. These talents helped Ireland get on the map with wins against some top sides occasionally. Most of them are retired or reaching their end, though, leading to the need for new talent who can take Irish cricket to the next level.
Going by the last two series, Harry Tector and Josh Little, two 22-year-olds, are looking very promising. Both players are already regulars in the side, having played a fair few games. They’ve each played around fifty international games and are already regulars in the side. With two high-profile series going by, the young pair finally got a chance to grab the spotlight.

Harry Tector’s rise is almost rapid. When a player performs against India he is almost instantly cast into stardom. Harry Tector cracked that code when he struck a quick fifty against them in a T20. His fifty was commanding and grabbed the attention of Hardik Pandya, who later gifted him a Cricket Bat. Later, he turned his T20 form into One-day form and impressed against New Zealand. Runs kept flowing as Ireland challenged New Zealand in all three games, thanks to his push with the bat.
With two centuries in three ODIs, Harry Tector has cemented his spot in the side, and is carrying the mantle of previous ODI stars in Ireland Cricket. The bowling front though has been taken care of wonderfully by Josh :Little. Josh Little has a similar number of games under his belt, and he is impressing as well.
He has pace and comes in with a left-arm angle. His action is pretty good as well, and he ensures that he is among the wickets in each game. Like Tector, Little does his part to impress in a couple of big series. He has ten wickets across five games against New Zealand.
With Tector and Little finding their feet, Ireland are in a good position. They have the World Cup coming up, and both players are likely to play big roles. These two players can be groomed well, and if they are, Ireland cricket will move a long way forward.
