After South Africa dominated with the bat in the Chattogram Test, Bangladesh started their innings in a surprising way. The hosts scored 10 runs in one ball of the innings and that too without hitting the ball.

Leading the series by 1-0, South African captain Aiden Markram chose to bat first. With the help of three centuries (Tony de Zorzi 177, Tristan Stubbs 106, and Wiaan Mulder 105*) and two more half-centuries (David Bedingham 59 and Senuran Muthusamy 68*), South Africa scored 575/6 before declaring the innings.

After the first innings of the Test match, Bangladesh scored 10 runs before the second ball of the innings. Moreover, both the openers hadn’t opened their accounts yet.

Penalty runs

Actually, Bangladesh earned five penalty runs due to South Africa’s excessive running on the pitch. Even after several warnings, the visitors exceeded the limit. During the 144th over, just a few balls before the declaration, Bangladesh were awarded five penalty runs. It means that Bangladesh started the innings with 5/0.

No ball + four byes

After the first delivery of Bangladesh's innings, Kagiso Rabada delivered a widish ball to the leg side, which the wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne failed to save, and it went to the boundary. Moreover, the bowling end umpire signaled the delivery a no-ball as Bangladesh scored 10 runs in just one ball.

However, the Bangladesh camp’s little smile was erased by the South African bowlers. Bangladesh ended the day at 38/4 as they are trailing by 537 runs. Only the opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy (10) reached double-digit figures in the first nine overs of the innings. Mominul Haque (6*) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (4*) are unbeaten in the innings.

Kagiso Rabada (2/8) took two wickets, while Dane Paterson (1/15) and Keshav Maharaj (1/4) took one wicket each.
