Ruturaj Gaikwad has responded to his appointment as captain of the Chennai Super Kings, expressing a calm demeanor about the transition. Gaikwad took over from MS Dhoni as the captain of CSK ahead of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
The defending champions CSK will commence their IPL 2024 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday, March 22. In the previous season, Dhoni led the Chennai-based franchise to their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans in the final in Ahmedabad.
In a video shared by CSK on their official platform, Gaikwad expressed his readiness for the new role and his anticipation of enjoying his time as CSK’s captain. Gaikwad has been one of CSK’s most reliable batsman in recent IPL seasons, amassing 635 runs in 2021, 368 runs in 2022, and 590 runs last season.
“I feel honored. It’s definitely a responsibility, but I’m excited because of the experienced group we have. Everyone is seasoned enough, so there’s not much for me to worry about. Moreover, I have the likes of Mahi (Dhoni) bhai, Jaddu (Jadeja) bhai, and Ajju (Rahane) bhai, who’s been a great captain, to guide me. There’s nothing much to fret over; I’m simply looking forward to enjoying it,” said Gaikwad.
