ICC announces updated Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 schedule

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the updated schedule for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday (August 26).

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the ninth edition of this tournament. Although Bangladesh was the original host nation for this forthcoming tournament, it has been shifted recently to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the present unrest situation in Bangladesh. 

However, Bangladesh will continue their hosting rights, which means they will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as the hosts. It also means there is no chance for the UAE to participate in this upcoming tournament. 

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Participants

Ten teams will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will run between October 3 and 20, 2024. Bangladesh are participating as the hosts, while the top six teams from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 have automatically qualified for the upcoming tournament, along with one team from the ICC Women’s T20I rankings as of February 27, 2023. Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, and the West Indies qualified through their performances at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, while Pakistan joined with the ranking position. 

Sri Lanka and Scotland have been added to the upcoming tournament through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Tournament Format

In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, two groups have been created, with five teams in each group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, where both semi-final winners will participate in the final of the tournament. In the final, the winners will lift the trophy. A total of 23 matches will be played in this tournament. 

Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the entire ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Dubai will host the first semi-final on October 17 and Sharjah will host the second semi-final on October 18. If India Women qualify for the semi-finals, they will compete in the Semi-final 1.

Dubai will organise the final of the tournament on October 20. 

Only the semi-finals and final match have reserve days.

Before the beginning of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, 10 warm-up matches will be played from September 28 to October 1, 2024.
