Former International Cricket Council (ICC) elite panel umpire from Pakistan, Asad Rauf, has passed away. Rauf, who was 66-year-old, died because of a heart failure in Lahore.

In the year 2000, Asad Rauf, who was viewed as one of the finest umpires of his age, started his umpiring career in international cricket and stood in his first ODI.

He was promoted to ICC’s elite panel in the year 2006 only one year after officiating his first Test match and throughout the span of the next seven years, he became one of the finest umpires from Pakistan.

Discussing his umpiring career, Rauf administered in 64 Test matches (49 as on-field, 15 as the third umpire), and 139 One Day International matches (98 as on-field, 41 as the third umpire). Likewise, he officiated in 28 T20 International games (23 as on-field, 5 as the third umpire).

Rauf, who was a right-handed batsman, had a solid run in first class cricket during the 1980s. He played as a middle-order player for National Bank and Railways. In 71 first class games, Rauf scored 3423 runs at an average of 28.76, including 3 tons and 22 half-centuries. Likewise, he played 40 List A games and scored 611 runs at an average of 19.70, including 4 half-centuries.
