ICC opens up on Cricket at future Youth Olympics

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently opened up its view on cricket at the future Youth Olympics.

Cricket is ready to return to the Summer Olympics during the next edition, Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Before the next edition, cricket was a part only during the Paris 1900 Olympics, where only two teams participated.

It's a good idea: ICC's General Manager of Development

Recently, in an email conversation with the ICC's General Manager of Development, William Glenwright, Vivek Gopalan proposed the inclusion of cricket in the future Youth Olympics. Glenwright believes that it is a great idea.

The ICC's General Manager of Development replied, according to the Cricbuzz report, "It's a good idea and something we could look at."

The Indian government is not only serious about hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics but is also considering hosting the 2030 Summer Youth Olympics. Mumbai is a strong contender to host the 2030 Summer Youth Olympics.

Gopalan added in his email, "There is a strong for cricket at Youth Olympic Games (YOG) with Mumbai bidding to host 2030 YOG."

In the reply, the ICC official strongly pointed out the importance of cricket’s inclusion in the Youth Olympics. The official claimed that all top sports are part of the Youth Olympics, so cricket shouldn’t miss it.       

All top sports are part of the YOG

The reply added, "All top sports, including Rugby Sevens, are part of the YOG. Why not Cricket? Including Cricket in the YOG would revolutionize grassroots cricket globally, especially among the ICC Associates." 

With cricket’s return to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the ICC has formed strong links with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). So, the ICC believes that it will not be a difficult job to convince the IOC to include cricket in the future Youth Olympics.
