Virat Kohli would have not minded a deduction from his IPL salary if it would give RCB a boost during the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2022, said Parthiv, who has played with the right-hander both for India and RCB. According to Parthiv, Kohli, who has played with the talismanic right-hander for both India and RCB in the IPL, would not have minded a reduction in his salary during the mega auction in advance of IPL 2022.

RCB’s “larger interests” may have caused Virat Kohli to take a “pay cut” in IPL salary, argues former Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Parthiv Patel. Kohli was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, as expected. Since RCB retained only three players, Kohli can receive a salary of 15 crore, which is lower than his previous salary of 17 crore. After nine years as coach of the RCB, Kohli has stepped down from the team. He announced that he would not be continuing as captain of the Indian T20 team after the World Cup. Since the IPL began, Kohli is one of the very few players who have played for only one franchise. Kohli was recruited by RCB from the auction pool in 2008 after leading India to victory in the U19 World Cup. He has been an integral part of the team ever since. RCB has also retained Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj for 11 crores and 7 crores, respectively.

“Virat Kohli, who has been with the team from the beginning, is retained for INR 15 crores. Glenn Maxwell, who was signed by the team last season, remains with the Bold Brigade for INR 11 crores. Muhammad Siraj, who has been with RCB since 2018, will continue to play for the team for an undisclosed sum,” RCB concluded.
