India breezed to a nine-wicket victory over Thailand thanks to seven wickets shared by spinners Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. India defeated Thailand in six overs with just one wicket lost after restricting them to 37, their third-lowest score in the Asia Cup.

Thailand started slowly and finished the power play with just 16 for 1. After Naruemol Chaiwai’s run-out in the seventh over, Thailand lost their final eight wickets for just 17 runs. This marked the beginning of the collapse. Smriti Mandhana, playing her 100th T20I, substituted for Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the previous game with a niggle, and chose to bowl with the damp conditions in mind.

Thailand openers cautious

Thailand’s openers, Natthakan Chantham and Nannapat Koncharoenkai, started cautiously, but Deepti immediately found a sharp turn and scored just one run in the first over. Chantham brought out the sweep and got a boundary against Deepti, demonstrating positive intent, and Koncharoenkai broke the pressure with a drive to the boundary off quick Meghna Singh, who was replaced by Renuka Singh for this match. But a couple of balls later, Chantham was deceived by the turn and was bowled.

The Indian team has won four of their last five matches in this tournament, losing only to their archrivals, the Pakistani women’s cricket team, last week. However, Team India maintained their position at the top of the table by crushing the Bangladesh women’s cricket team in their subsequent match, rebounding from their defeat to Pakistan. Thailand, their opponent on Monday, defeated Bismah Maroof’s Pakistan last week in a historic victory. With six points from five matches—three wins and two losses—Thailand are currently in fourth place on the Points Table as a result of that stunning victory.

However, the defending champion Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team is in close proximity to fifth place, so the Thai cannot take that position for granted. Naruemoi Chaiwai, captain of Thailand, will be hoping for a repeat of their upset victory over Team India to advance to the semi finals.
