In the second Test, Peter Handscomb stated that the catch at the short leg was an “absolute fluke” and that he was fortunate to be taken after being struck on the body. Handscomb revealed that he got leg covers for his feet, shins, and knees as well as a vest to protect his chest.

During the second Test between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australian cricketer Peter Handscomb addressed the reason for wearing new protective gear and baseball gear. In India’s opening innings, Peter Handscomb grabbed a stunning catch of Shreyas Iyer at short leg, maintaining his status as one of the best close-in catcher. “It hit me in the prime spot to just roll up to my right, and I was lucky enough to feel (the ball) moving right. I threw a couple of hands out and just managed to stay under it. Such catches need to get a lot of luck, Handscomb told the Unplayable Podcast.

Handscomb, one amongst Australia’s top bat pad fielders. Prior to the start of the BGT, Handscomb traveled to India after buying a complete set of protective padding intended for baseball catchers. “But more than anything just to give me the conviction to stay front on, when they sweep, to give me the confidence to keep my eye on the ball knowing that it won’t hurt as much,” Handscomb stated when discussing how he overcame his fear of being hit and gained his confidence.

“I’ve been pondering it for bat-pad for a long (fielding)”. Why don’t we wear more protective (gear), I wondered after seeing people wear keeping pads underneath their pants.
