India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli has finally showcased his signature skills, delighting fans ahead of the Men in Blue’s opening game against Ireland in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on Wednesday, June 5.
After missing a couple of training sessions and the warm-up match against Bangladesh, Kohli started his T20 World Cup preparations with an intense net session at the Nassau County Cricket Ground in New York on Tuesday, June 4.
Notably, Kohli arrived in New York just a day before the warm-up game and was rested for the match. This session marked the former Indian skipper’s first training in the USA ahead of the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Ireland in New York on Wednesday.
The Indian cricket team’s presence typically generates significant buzz, but the atmosphere in New York was different, as seen in a video shared by the BCCI on social media. During his extensive practice session, Kohli batted alongside his teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav in the nets.
However, the pitch conditions at the Nassau County Cricket Ground were less than ideal, exhibiting some unpredictable bounce that left captain Rohit visibly dissatisfied. Despite these challenges, Kohli remained unwavering in his dedication, intensely focusing on his batting technique during his net session.
During the net session, the dynamic right-hander focused extensively on perfecting his off-side strokes, indicating a strategic effort to refine his game. This suggests he might be addressing technical weaknesses or preparing to counter specific deliveries he anticipates facing in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 matches.
The Indian cricket team trained for nearly three hours at the Nassau County Cricket Ground. Among the players, Kohli stood out with a remarkable performance, batting for almost 40 minutes to acclimate to the New York conditions.
During his 40-minute net session, Kohli faced Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. The Indian batting maestro took his time to assess the conditions before displaying his trademark fluency and style in the nets. Throughout his training session, he was seen in complete control.
It’s reported that Hardik had another extensive net session, with the star all-rounder being provided with virtual environments to fine-tune his skills as a finisher ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 matches. Hardik remained the last to depart the camp after his focused batting session in New York.
